Think of a hairpiece like a tie. Every guy has a spare tie lying about 'just in case,' so you're prepared for every situation. The same applies to a hairpiece; you don't want to be caught out without one. Every seasoned hair wearer keeps a spare hairpiece. Though having a spare hair system you don't feel comfortable wearing is no use. If you invest in a backup hair replacement system, make it worthwhile with a custom wig.
Customization is essential to achieving a natural look; luckily, that's our specialty! Custom hairpieces also happen to be the most popular hair replacement option amongst our clients, and it's no surprise why. Their high level of personalization means you can design a unique, high-quality hairpiece with all the specific, fine-tuned features that make you… well, you! Here's a roundup of how you can customize your hairpiece.
Size
Unlike stock hair systems that come in standard sizes, custom hairpieces are made to fit the exact dimensions of your head. To ensure the perfect fit, Advent Hair provides a fitting template so that you can take control of the custom ordering process from the comfort of your home. The easy-to-follow instructions explain how to make an accurate template of your head. Don't worry, you'll only need to do this once, as we'll save all your measurements and details for an even easier online shopping experience next time around! Alternatively, if you already have an old favorite hairpiece, you can send it to us, and we can take the measurements from that.
Hair Density
Hair density refers to the thickness of the hair, or more specifically, the number of strands of hair per square inch of your hair unit base. It can range from extra-light to extra-heavy. For stock hair systems, the density is kept the same throughout the hairpiece, and that's one of the things that can give a hair system away; no one is born with the same hair density all over their head!
With a custom wig, you can regulate the hair density and vary it anywhere in the hairpiece to create a natural and age-appropriate look. For example, you could (and should) have slightly less density around the hairline, gradually increasing through the top and crown area. Similarly, if you're over 50, we would generally recommend opting for a slightly lighter hair density than, say, someone who is in their mid-20s.
Hair Color and Highlights
With a custom wig, you can achieve an exact color match to your natural hair. All we require is a sample of your natural hair, or if that's not an option, a sample of hair from your old hairpiece. If you want to try a new look, we can send you a color ring with an extensive selection of hair colors for you to choose from. We don't share the colors on our website or electronically because the color can look very different on a screen compared to real life. We can also add highlights if desired.
Gray Hair Percentage
Aging. It doesn't get any easier… or does it? Going gray is inevitable, but deciding how much gray to add to your hairpiece can feel unnatural. Most of the time, we're working hard to disguise the grays with hair dye or - God forbid - tweezers! The thing is, if you have a gray-less toupe but a graying mustache, beard, or sideburns, you're going to drive yourself crazy trying to keep the hair all the same shade. And your toupee will most likely end up looking very out of place… which is far from the inconspicuous look we're aiming for!
Make life easier for yourself by being a proud silver fox or vixen and introducing gray percentage for a natural look. Gray hairs vary from white to silver and can be synthetic fiber or human hair. They are added in 5% increments and can be varied throughout the hairpiece. For example, you could have 20% gray at the temples and 15% elsewhere. Trust us, you'll look sharp and age-appropriate; most importantly, no one will ever detect you're wearing a hairpiece!
Hair Styles
Another benefit of custom hairpieces is that you can specify the hair style and texture, from long to short, curly or straight. The most natural-looking and flattering wigs will suit your face shape and accentuate your best features.
