Though few and far between, there are some circumstances in which we don’t recommend repairing your hairpiece. For example, hair systems that are more than five years old or that have suffered extensive, irreparable damage. Wig Care and Maintenance: The Key to a Long-Lasting Hair System

Never underestimate the power of a consistent wig care and maintenance regime. By dedicating a small, daily dose of TLC to all hair systems for men and women, you can significantly increase their lifespan. It may sound daunting, but it’s very simple once you make a habit of it! Here are some tips to get you started:

• Keep your hair system clean: Washing your hairpiece once or twice a week will keep it smooth and tangle-free and help you maintain a healthy scalp. Hairpieces shouldn't be washed too frequently as you risk drying them out.
• Condition regularly! The trick to maintaining silky soft hair is to keep it conditioned. After washing your hairpiece, gently massage the conditioner evenly from the top of your hair to the bottom. Leave-in conditioners are another great way to protect against dryness, UV damage, and shedding. And, for those who prefer organic treatments, why not try a homemade deep conditioner!
• Avoid blow-dryers and heated hair-styling tools. An absolute no-go for synthetic hair replacements and best avoided on natural human hair wigs, heated styling tools melt synthetic hair and dry out human hair. Instead, dry your wig with a towel or cotton tee.
• Use the correct products for your hair replacement system. Always make sure your products are sulfate-free and that they are appropriate for your hair system type. Synthetic and natural human hair wigs have different qualities and, therefore, different needs, so it’s important always to check the products are suitable for your hair type before purchasing.

When it comes to styling, use alcohol-free products that are specially made for natural human hair wigs, such as the Artistique Styling Gel Spray or the Aquatrol Finishing Spray. These products have the same fixing effect as store-bought products but prevent unnecessary dryness and damage.

Be careful when it comes to synthetic hair, as hairspray and gel made for natural human hair wigs can quickly deteriorate synthetic fibers. Instead, use a spray bottle filled with water to gently dampen the hair and style it with either a wig brush, or your fingertips. Luckily, synthetic hair systems hold their shape a lot better than natural human hair wigs, especially in hot and humid climates!
