We’ve talked about how to take care of your hair systems in hot, sunny weathers. But what about sporting your favorite hair system in cold weathers? Do they pose any threat to the integrity and longevity of your hair replacement method? Do you need to keep any special considerations in mind?
We’re here to answer all of those and much, much more.
With the holidays fast approaching, and the weather that usually comes with them in some parts of the world, especially the United States, it’s important to know that yes, cold weather can and will, in fact, damage a hair system.
Just because cold weathers are normally associated with less exposure to direct sunlight, that doesn’t mean that you should give your hair systems any less care. Cold weather, just like hot weather, comes with its own set of environmental conditions that can become quite annoying for hair wearers; with the main culprits being high winds and dry air.
“Dry air?” you might be asking yourself, and yes you read that right: dry air. You see, cold winter air is extremely dry, as air can only hold a certain amount of water in it, the colder the air gets the less water it can hold before the water eventually condenses.
Long story short, cold air is really dry, and when it comes in contact with your skin, eyes, hair system, or any other thing that might have some moisture in it, it essentially “sucks” the moisture out of that thing, hence the chapped lips, sore throat or brittle hair you might experience during your winter vacations.
So with all that out of the way, here’s a handy list of tips on how to properly care for your hair systems in cold weathers!
Deep conditioners and moisturizers: If you’re a frequent visitor of our blog, you’ll know we mention conditioners and leave-in conditioners every other article, and there’s a good reason for that.
Exposure to dry air leads to dry, brittle hair, and brittle hair translates into hair breakage. Obviously not a good thing.
What you want for these sorts of scenarios is a good leave-in conditioner. Conditioners are your best and safest bet when it comes to giving your hair system a good, deep moisturizing, and that’s really the main way to fight the dryness of cold air.
Now, when conditioning your hair system it is extremely important to always keep two things in mind:
-Use the right conditioner for the right type of hair system. Never ever mix synthetic hair products with human hair systems and vice versa, synthetic and human hair might look somewhat similar but they both have very particular care needs. Using the wrong product on the wrong type of hair will do a very nasty number on your system faster than any cold breeze would.
-You can condition your hair system without washing it. Remember that cleaning your hair system too frequently actually damages it, so don’t go overboard with the washing just so you can condition it later. Afraid you might have exposed your hair system to a little too much cold, dry air? Give it a good conditioner and it should be good to go.
Never comb or brush your hair system while wet: This is a regular tip of ours too, but it’s never a bad idea to repeat good practices. Snow will get your hair wet, that’s a fact. But want to know what’s also a fact? That combing or brushing your hair system while still wet is one of the easiest ways to pull hair strands out of your hair, and onto the cold, white snow.
So next time some snow messes up with your awesome hairdo, gently style it with your fingertips and wait for it to dry off before properly styling it with a comb or a brush. Oh, and if possible, remember to use a brush or comb specially designed for hair system styling, not your regular run-of-the-mill brush.
Wear a hat appropriate for the occasion, or put your hair system in a ponytail: Yes we know, having to cover up your awesome hair system with some random hat sucks, but trusts us, dry air is no joke when it comes to hair system maintenance. Wearing a hat when exposed to cold weathers helps your hair system maintain some of its moisture for longer periods of time.
Same thing goes for styling your hair system into a ponytail: sure, the outer layers might get some cold air, but overall, the hair system should retain its moisture longer than it would if you were to have your hair system loose.
So there you have it! Three useful tips to keep your hair system looking awesome in cold weathers. Following these useful tips, you should have no worries when wearing your favorite hair replacement method on this holiday season!
