Travel with your hairpiece: Tips and tricks for travel bugs

Written by Jeff Waite | Nov 15, 2019 4:33:00 PM

It's easy to get carried away in the excitement of vacation and forget the small details - like packing that fourth pair of socks or the sunblock. After all, we wait a long time for the chance to relax and unwind from our daily routines. Though for those of us that travel with a hairpiece, there are a few hair system maintenance tips to keep in mind to ensure that your vacation goes smoothly. Read on to find out more!

Pack Correctly:

When going on a trip, it's always a challenge to make sure that everything is packed well, that it all fits. Let's not even get started about airline baggage fees for extra luggage or luggage that is overweight! Though when traveling with a hair system, the way that you pack is extremely important, since packing your hairpiece incorrectly can result in needless damage and a bad hair day at the beach.

So how should you pack your hairpiece? The first step is to turn your hairpiece inside out so that the base of the hair system is facing outwards. You can then place your hair system into a hairnet followed by a plastic bag. In this way, you are protecting your hairpiece from snagging on other things in your luggage or from coming into contact with any liquid products that may leak in your luggage (like the sunblock we mentioned earlier - yuck!) When you place your hair system in the plastic bag, it's important that you seal it thoroughly, making sure that you do not push the air out of the bag and squish your hairpiece, as this can interfere with its form.

Stay in Shape:

No, we're not talking about beach bodies! Here we are referring to making sure that your hair system stays in shape throughout your vacation. Packing your hair system well, as directed above, without squishing it is a good start. Though once you arrive at your destination you will want to take your hair system out of the bag and hang it somewhere that allows it to maintain its form — preferably a portable hairpiece stand. If you don't have a stand available, you can find a mirror, coat rack, ice bucket, or similar fixture in your hotel room that can serve as a substitute.

Bring the right Products:

It's also important that you pack a large enough supply of your favorite hairpiece adhesive when taking a trip. A great tape for bringing on vacation is Walker Tape’s Easy Green hairpiece tape which is great for strong bonds that withstand all of your vacation fun! Prefer glue? MAX Adhere 360 Waterproof Adhesive is a great choice for someone who wants a hold that will last regardless of a dip in the pool or fun in the sun. Also, make sure to check out our past post on how to protect your hairpiece from oxidation while enjoying the sun!

You'll also want to make sure that you bring all of the adequate maintenance supplies so that you'll be able to keep your hairpiece in good shape even while away from home! If you have a hairpiece made of human hair, Remmy Hair's convenient kit of shampoo, conditioner, and sealer will leave you prepared to take on your full hairpiece maintenance routine whether at home or traveling. There are also cleansers and conditioners for synthetic hair that are great to bring on vacation! You also want to make sure that you don't leave home without your favorite hairpiece-safe brush or comb so that you can keep your hair system smooth and styled while on your trip.

Bring a backup:

As we have gone over in previous posts, it's never a bad idea to have a spare hair system. Even when thinking of the price of a custom hair system, having a spare hairpiece can get you out of a pickle or avoid excess wear to your favorite piece. Not sure what to choose for your next hair system? Our Hair System Buyer's Guide has some great advice that can help you find the option that is best for you and your needs!

By keeping these tips in mind you can have a fun and worry-free vacation while looking your best! You will be able to relax knowing that your hair system is well taken care of, leaving you free to enjoy your valuable time off. Take advantage of your free time whether it be in the pool, at the beach, or even a snowy destination!
