How To Wash Your Entire Hair System

Cleaning your hair system can be a little bit daunting at first. There's a ton of ways of doing it wrong and just a handful of ways of doing it right.

But don't worry! Today we bring you and easy step-by-step guide on how to wash your entire poly with lace perimeter hair system. The first step is to get the system off of your head. It might sound obvious, but we have talked in the past about how to wash your hair systems in the shower while wearing them.

Now take a moment to examine the base of your system. We're looking for old glue and adhesive residue. Run the tip of your fingers all over the base and the front of the base, sometimes residue isn't as easy to see. Remember where these clumps of old adhesive are, we'll come back to them later.

Take an old towel and place it on one of your hands while holding the hair system on your other hand. Now roll the towel a little bit on the perimeter of your hair system using the palm of your hand underneath the towel. Always pull away from the system, not toward the center of it. We do this in order to get the tape to fold in on itself. Make sure to grab your hair system by the poly, DO NOT grab the system by the lace because the pressure will stretch, or even worse, rip the lace.

Now that you got some of the tape off of the perimeter, start folding the rest of the tape in on itself. Make sure to place a finger for extra support underneath the part of the perimeter you're pulling tape off of or your risk stretching the perimeter of your system with each pull of the tape. Just place your index finger underneath the base and follow closely with your thumb on top and you should be A-OK. Work your way around the entire perimeter of your hair system until there's no more tape left on it. If things ever get a little bit gooey or slippery, just run you old towel over it and keep pulling away!

Once that's done, spray some solvent on those areas where you found adhesive residue. Also, make sure to spray some solvent around the perimeter, as adhesive tends to seep into the hair along the perimeter of the system.

Not sure what solvent you should use? Walker's C22 is a citrus-based super cleaner for both your scalp and your hair systems. It's fast acting on most tapes and soft bonds, yet gentle on the skin. Effortlessly rinses off with soap and water and easily cleans tape residue from the hair. For those that attach via perimeter bonding or full head bonding, C22 makes clean up a breeze and it smells great!

The next step is to take a little bit of shampoo and run it on top of the solvent. We don't wet the water on this step because we don't want any water diluting the solvent solution, we need it at full strength on this step. Gently work the system with your fingers, get all that adhesive residue off of it with your finger tips and the help of the solvent and shampoo combo.

Take your old towel one more time and roll it again on the base of your system, including the front. The same as before, always pull away from the system, not toward the center of it.

If there's still any adhesive residue on the edges of your hair system, just flip it around so the base rests on the palm of your hands and run a comb around its edges. This makes sure to get rid of any adhesive residue that might still be attached to some of the perimeter hair.

Now go ahead and wash your hair system with your favorite shampoo and conditioner just like we taught a couple of entries ago.
