Does this mean you shouldn’t use tape on the front of your hair system? Of course not! Tape is as good as any other kind of adhesive, and it can be easy to use if you know what you’re doing. But becoming a black belt when it comes to taping down front lace systems doesn’t happen overnight, and that’s what today’s blog post is all about.
You’ve got to start somewhere, right? Well, you’re in the right place. Welcome to taping the front of your hair system 101
First off we need to talk about the kind of tape that you’re using. Sure, tape rolls can be cut into small sections and get the job done, but we can’t miss this opportunity to introduce you to the tape tab. Tape tabs are great for taping front of your hair system down since you don’t need to trim them to fit and are super easy to handle. Once you choose tab, you’ll never go back.
Have no idea which one you should try first? The MAX Grab-Tabs and Walker Tape Lace Front Minis are both waterproof, specially made for lace, and can last up to 4 weeks for most hair wearers. If you’re not feeling convinced, you can look for more here.
Now that we’ve got that covered, let’s begin with the taping lessons.
For starters, how about making sure your scissors are nice and clean? You’ll be surprised on how much of a difference this makes.
If you prefer to go with a tape roll then you’re going to need scissors to cut them into small sections, but if you went for the tape tabs then don’t blow off this step just yet. It wouldn’t hurt to have some scissors around just in case, especially since some tabs come in pieces of two tabs each. So, to clean your scissors, you can spray or apply a small amount of solvent on them to get rid of any adhesive residue. After applying the solvent, chop them together a few times just to make sure they’re good to go.
Once you’re done cutting the tape, flip the front of your hair system back so the lace is facing you, and use hair clips to hold it. Use as many clips as needed to make sure you keep the hair out of the way. If you don’t, you risk getting your hair caught in glue and that means you’ll probably have to start all over again.
As you may have guessed, placing the tape properly is the most important part of this process, so you want to take your time for this next step. Peel off the protective screen from one of the sides of the tape and carefully place the tape on the lace front. Do this slowly and don’t press it down right away. Take a good look and make sure the tape is placed where you want it to be.
But, wait. Where exactly should you want it to be? What is the best way to place the tape on the front of your hair system? Instead of placing one large piece of tape in the middle of the lace front, we recommend you use two tabs instead. Place one a little more to the left and the other one to the right. If your hair piece is bigger than the average then you might want to use more than two tabs, but the main idea here is that you feel as comfortable as you can while having a strong bond, so you can try with as many tabs as you feel necessary and take it from there. One extra tip: place the tape about a millimeter away from the edges.
Once you’re done placing the first tab or small section of tape, press it in place from both sides. When moving on to the next piece, try not to touch the tape that’s already on your front lace.
And we’re done with the hard part! Now you just have to peel off the remaining protective screen from the tape and carefully remove the hair clips. You can slowly start pressing the hair system from the sides so you make you’re sure it’s lined up with your hairline. As we’ve said before, don’t just stretch or pull on the front lace. This could damage your hair piece on the long run. Just gently let it fall into place and you’re done!
