We know stepping into the world of hair replacement systems for the first time can be daunting; we’ve been there ourselves. You’re probably frozen outside the metaphorical shop door of Advent Hair with all your hair insecurities amplified and whizzing around your head at a dizzying speed. ‘What if people notice I’m wearing a hairpiece?’ You think. ‘Won’t that be even more embarrassing? What would my friends, family, and colleagues think or say behind my back?’
Think of this blog as a friendly wig-wearing hair replacement expert called Jeff opening the metaphorical shop door and welcoming you into Advent Hair with a beaming smile and a laidback demeanor. He offers you a cup of coffee and invites you to take a seat and tell him about your hair troubles and hair system concerns. Then, he unwraps each of your worries, one by one:
Your hairpiece will be undetectable.
“At Advent Hair, we offer two types of hair systems: pre-made (stock) hair systems and custom-made wigs. Custom hair systems are the most popular option amongst our customers because they achieve the most natural and undetectable look. Custom wigs offer a high level of personalization, so you can design a high-quality hairpiece with all the fine-tuned features that make you unique.
Where stock hair systems come in standard sizes, custom hairpieces are made to fit the exact dimensions of your head. Stock hair systems also maintain the same hair density (thickness) across the hairpiece, which is one of the characteristics that often gives a hair system away. With a custom wig, however, you can regulate hair density and vary it anywhere in the hairpiece to create a natural and age-appropriate look. For example, you could (and should) have slightly less density around the hairline, gradually increasing through the top and crown area.
Other benefits of a custom wig include an exact hair color match and customizable gray percentage, highlights, hair texture, hair type (natural, synthetic, or Remy), hairstyle, and front and base materials. All these specific details will make your hair system go entirely undetected.”
A good hair adhesive is key.
“Never underestimate the importance of a good quality hair adhesive. It can be the difference between a seamless hair-wearing experience or a highly embarrassing one that you’re unlikely to live down! Don’t worry; you have control over your hairpiece, and with the right know-how, you’ll never face a cringeworthy moment like it.
Ultimately, you need to know that there are two main hair system attachment methods: liquid adhesive and wig tape. Both options have their pros and cons, and ultimately it comes down to personal preference and lifestyle choices: Do you want to remove your hairpiece at night or leave it in place for a few weeks? Do you do lots of sports, participate in water-based activities, or live in a hot and humid climate? Do you have sensitive skin? All these things will influence your choice of adhesive.
Wig tape, or toupee tape, tends to be quicker and easier to apply and remove than wig adhesives and is a popular choice amongst first-time wig wearers. It comes in different strengths, making it suitable for both day and permanent wig wearers. The daily tape has the lowest strength for a one-day attachment. Walker’s No Shine Tape and Blue Lace are great daily tape options for lace and Fine Mono bases. Avoid using tapes with a shine for light-density hairpieces, as they will be visible, and bear in mind toupee tape is not the most natural-looking option for the front hairline. Extended wear tape offers a longer attachment and can hold your hair replacement system firmly in place for between one to six weeks, depending on the level of adhesion. For example, Euro Flex Tape will hold the hairpiece in place for three weeks and has small holes along the tape, allowing the scalp to breathe. True Tape’s Super Tape, Walker Tape Ultra Bond, or Max Adhesives Prodigy Tape are other reliable options for extended-wear bonds.
Liquid qig adhesives are a popular hairpiece attachment method for permanent wig wearers because they provide a stronger, more precise hair system bond and a natural hairline. This hairpiece attachment method is excellent for leading an active or highly social lifestyle. Bonding can vary from weekly to 6-8 weeks, depending on the strength of the glue. Though, we recommend wearing your hair replacement for a maximum of six weeks and giving your hair system and scalp time to breathe in between wears. Wig adhesive can take longer to apply than wig tape, though you can use it more precisely. It also takes more time to remove from the scalp and the base of the hair system than tape; however, you’d only have to tackle it every three to six weeks, so it’s swings and roundabouts!

Wear your hairpiece with pride.
“Having a healthy head of hair is something most people take for granted. It’s not until we start to lose it that we realize the impact it has on our self-esteem and, subsequently, on our daily life, work and relationships. It’s a bit like that feeling when you have a bad hair day… just quadrupled, and unfortunately, it can’t be solved with a quick dollop of anti-frizz serum, hair gel, or a powerful pair of hair straighteners. It can, however, be solved with a good-quality custom wig, which is more common than you may think!
Nowadays, wigs are discussed more frequently and openly in the mainstream media. Influencers and celebrities share their wig-wearing experiences, opening up a world of possibilities to a broader audience, and gradually dissolving the narrow-minded stigma surrounding them. Wigs are an excellent tool for experimenting with a new look, developing an identity you feel comfortable with, and restoring, or boosting, your self-confidence. Hairpieces can only positively impact your daily life. True, it might take some getting used to, but once you’ve got the knack of it, it’ll blend into your daily rituals as seamlessly as brushing your teeth.
Stop worrying about anyone else’s opinion of you. As the American columnist Ann Landers once said: “At age 20, we worry about what others think of us. At age 40, we don’t care what they think of us. At age 60, we discover they haven’t been thinking of us at all.” Most of those criticisms and worries are your inner ego talking, not your friends and family. The people who really matter in your life will be happy to see you looking and being the best, most confident, and happy version of yourself, even if that means wearing a hair replacement system to get there. And if someone were to say something or judge you (which they won’t), don’t take it personally. It’s more a reflection of their character than yours. So, keep your head up and wair your hair replacement with pride; confidence is attractive,” concludes Jeff.
