Men's Hair Replacement: What do I need to know?

Whether in the professional or personal world, confidence plays a huge part in how people view you. People, after all, are incredibly perceptive. They pick up on subtle cues such as body language, and if you are not confident for any reason, it shows. Confidence, however, does not come from one single thing. It’s many different elements working together, and one of those key elements is feeling secure in your physical appearance. If you feel your total or partial hair loss is negatively affecting your confidence, perhaps a mens hair replacement system is the right option for you.

If you’re thinking about purchasing a mens hair replacement system or even if you’re already using one, here are some essential things to know about them.

When selecting a hairpiece, you need to decide on whether you want a custom fit or a stock fit. Stock units are premade hairpieces that are purchased and worn as is. Custom units, on the other hand, let you personalize certain aspects, so the hairpiece is made to your exact fit and specifications.

Within each of these two categories there is still variation. Stock units, for example, are not all the same. The first option is typically called a mono hairpiece. This unit can be attached with adhesive and worn for the entirety of the day. The mono hairpiece can be taken off every night and easily reattached the next morning. These units have been around the longest, and many people who have utilized mens hair replacement options for a long time are familiar with this variety.

Slightly newer are the lace hair pieces. These are similar to the mono hairpiece, except the base is made of a soft, delicate, french lace material. The newest of the models, however, is the skin graft hairpiece. These are very comfortable to wear and attached to the head for two to four weeks of continuous wear. This technology has evolved since its introduction, and the bonding base is now available in three thicknesses: original, thin, and super thin.

For custom hairpieces, you have unlimited flexibility. For example, you can choose to add highlights to your existing hair color, as well as selecting the density and texture of the hair.

Another common option among mens hair replacement products is the type of hair used. In general, there are three options. You can purchase synthetic hair, real human hair, or REMY human hair. Synthetic, as the name suggests, is not real human hair, but it is a high quality approximation of it. For those who are highly concerned about the hair system looking natural, though, REMY human hair is the best option, as it's the highest quality hair. The hair still has the cuticles intact. This preservation of the cuticles gives you a more natural look, and it also ensures a longer lasting and more manageable product. REMY hair products do tend to be slightly more expensive for that reason.
