Last week, you may have heard or read in the news about a doctor who thinks he may be on the path to discovering a cure for male pattern baldness. Dr. George Cotsarlis, chair of the dermatology department at the University of Pennsylvania, has been working alongside researchers to discover a cure for male pattern baldness. Recently, the group identified a chemical in the scalp that stops hair from growing. These researchers believe that this may lead them to the cure for male pattern baldness.

What does this mean?

They discovered a protein, PDG2, which is three times more likely to be found on the scalps of balding men than on the scalps of men with full heads of hair. Last week, in many news reports Dr. Cotsarelis explained that the treatment for male pattern baldness may involve cell-based treatments. This would involve isolating certain stem cells, expanding the stem cells and adding the expanded cells back onto a persons scalp.
