A hair system is a huge investment, not so much on the money side of things, but more on the emotional side of things. The way our hair looks plays a fundamental part in the way we look and feel as a whole.

So, something that is so personal and important to us should be treated with care and respect, right?

Well, that’s why today we want to dedicate this blog article to a list of must-have items you should have at your disposal when taking care of your hair system or hair piece. The products on this list will help you with stuff like cleaning and drying your hair system, to solving more specialized issues like hair tangling, dryness, and oxidation.

Keep in mind that we kept more simple stuff like tapes and liquid adhesives out of this list, as we wanted to double down on maintenance products.

And now, without further delay, here’s everything you should have in your hair system maintenance kit to keep your hair soft and natural-looking!

Starting off with the basics we have:

1.Leave-in conditioner: Conditioning is always good for your hair system, it keeps the hair on your system soft for longer periods of time, strengthens the hair strands, hydrates the piece and keeps the hair healthy as a whole.

But you want to know what’s better than your run-of-the-mill conditioner? A leave-in conditioner!

Not only do they keep your hair system silky and soft for even longer periods of time, most of them offer added benefits like sunscreen protection. “Sunscreen protection? What for?” you might be asking yourself, but yeah, direct sunlight fades the color of your hair on the long run, a process also known as oxidation.

2.Color-correcting Shampoo: On the topic of oxidation, it is always a good idea to keep a watchful eye on the color of your hair system.  It's a dead giveaway that you are wearing a hair system when the system's hair color develops a few brassy red strands that contrast against your own hair or the rest of the hair of the system.

That’s why a color-correcting shampoo is so important.

All human hair systems eventually oxidize and lighten in color, no matter how expensive or high quality the hair system is.  Color correcting shampoos, when used at least once every 2 weeks, will deal with those pesky red/brassy hair strands. Our very own Red Out Shampoo is available for dark brown to black hair systems.

3.Hair System Block Stand: Also known as a hair system stand, a wig block or just simply a styrofoam head, hair system blocks are excellent when it comes to storing, cleaning, and styling your hair systems.

They work wonders at keeping your hair systems untangled. Think about it, where and how would you rather store your hair systems? Throw them in some dusty old box or drawer? Or would you rather have them rest in the position they were custom-built for?

Not only that, they also help a ton when styling your hair system. Instead of awkwardly holding your hair piece with one hand while trying to brush it and style it, a hair system block allows you to use both hands at the same time. And because the block stand mimics the shape of your head, you can rest assured that the parts of the hair system that you styled will look the same on your head, as they do on the head system stand.

And if your stand is made out of styrofoam, throw a couple of t-pins into the mix and you have the best setup to let your hair system air dry after a good deep cleaning and conditioning. Just safely secure your clean hair system to the styrofoam head with a couple of t-pins and let time do its wonders!

4.Comb and/or Hair Brush: If you’re relatively new to the world of hair systems, this might seem like a no-brainer to you: “Of course you need a brush or a comb to take care of your hair! Right?”

And you would be right, up to a point.

Hair system veterans know that a regular run-of-the-mill brush or comb will do more harm than good when taking care of your hair system. Just as you should never use regular shampoo and conditioner for a hair system, the same thing goes for combs and brushes.

Unlike natural hair, damage to hair system’s strands is permanent, that’s where special, made-for-hair-systems combs and brushes come into play. These specially designed combs and hair brushes come with built-in features that help untangle and style hair systems while minimizing any risk of damage to the hair strands, features such as independently rotating teeth, to name one.

And there you have it! A basic 4-item kit that will greatly help you maintain the natural, shiny looks of your hair systems. An argument could be made for other items to be included on this list, but we wanted to start you off with the very basics first.
