• Wigs were considered to be of importance in Egyptians’ afterlife, so they were often buried with them.
• Wigs were regularly cared for with vegetable and animal oils, and they were washed and scented with flower petals or cinnamon.
• Men and women’s wigs in Egypt were often made from human hair, sheep’s wool or vegetable fibers, depending on a person’s social status.
• Faustina the Elder, a Roman Empress, was said to have worn over 300 wigs.
• During the 18th century, men’s wigs became more formal and were commonly worn by bishops and judges in the courts.
• In 16th century England, women’s wigs were often dyed red to mock Queen Elizabeth’s natural red hair.
• When longer men’s wigs became popular in the 17th century, combs became of importance, and it was considered fashionable to comb your wig in public.
• In the 1970s, many women conveniently dropped their wigs at a hair dresser and picked them up later.
• Many celebrities have popularized wigs such as Lady Gaga, Dolly Parton, Cher and Tina Turner.

Hair Replacement 101: Follow these tips to look your best

Hair Replacement

Buying Guide Tips

Using a hair replacement system doesn’t mean that you have to compromise feeling confident that you’re looking your very best. Here are some tips to ensure that everyday is a “great hair day” for you;

1. Don’t settle for a cheap machine made wig

You may get discouraged to find that not all hair system establishments in your area will carry a large variety of hairpieces and wigs. Some may stock only what is available to them at the time and not take into account the wide variety of available choices. Other shops may overcharge, realizing that they are the only store in the area supplying hair systems. Your best best is to research online shops to save you time as well as money, as you’ll find your selection widen with a few clicks. Be sure to patronize online stores that provide guarantees on their product to make your shopping experience as stress-free as possible.

2. Don’t skimp

With hair replacement systems, the “you get what you pay for” saying usually will apply. When looking for a hairpiece, look for the best constructed piece with human hair. While it may cost a little more than a synthetic hairpiece, you will definitely notice the value of human hair. Paying a few hundred dollars may make one wince, but everyday confidence is priceless.

3. Keep it clean

Depending on whether you have a synthetic or human hair hairpiece as well as its texture, you should use the appropriate wig shampoo and conditioner for your hair every week or so; an argon oil based or sulfate-free product is most preferred. Be careful not to over condition your hair to avoid a dull and heavy look and definitely avoid hot blow dryers.  Air drying your hairpiece on a wig stand to maintain its shape is ideal.

4. Hide the Hidden Tape

A major give-away that you are utilizing a hair replacement system (which is the exact opposite of the point of wearing one) is having any tape showing under your hair piece. Usually the culprit is near the sides or back where a wearer may not be able to catch it. Enlist the use of a hand mirror coupled with the mounted mirror to see all angles of your head. Good friends are also nice to have; let them know that in no way would you be embarrassed if they let you know if any wayward tape appeared while out.

5. Tuck your hairpiece in every night

Some hairpieces have fallen victim to being tossed on the dresser after a long night and have experienced shape loss. Try your best to protect your investment and look by placing your hairpiece on a wig stand every night.

6. Detangle as needed

Keep an eye on small curls on curlier textured wigs as they can soon multiply and end up becoming a tangled mess, causing a lot of work to detangle. It is inevitable for all hairpieces to experience some tangling, so when its time to detangle, use your fingers, providing natural oils the hair piece does not provide. In addition to detangler spray and a wig brush, you should be ready to face the world at your best in no time.

Follow these tips and your hair replacement will look as natural as your own hair!

The Stress of NFL Playoffs

Stressed? Football can really make your hair stand on end sometimes!

We have now passed through one weekend of the NFL playoffs. This is the most exciting time of year for football fans. In a few short weeks we will learn who will be crowned the Super Bowl champion for the 2011 season.

However, we know that for the fans who still have their team alive in the playoffs, that life can be stressful. As fans watch every play of every game, they hold their breath knowing that at any time a team can score. They have to watch as the players they are cheering for have to fight to come from behind or to maintain the lead. Each pass can be an eternity as you wait to see weather or not it reaches its intended target. For example: Last Sunday, the fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers had to watch with bated breath as their team managed to tie the game, only to suffer a loss on the first play of overtime.

For people who are often hit by the stress of these types of games, or stress in general, you may find that you can be in need of a custom hair replacement system. With one of these custom systems, you can ensure that your hair always looks its best and no one will know that you are wearing a hair piece. We can even match the exact color of your current hair.
